At Home Manicure: Do it Yourself in 6 Simple Steps
Do an at
home manicure
to pamper yourself, yet is very inexpensive! Here are 6 Steps to your At Home Manicure:
STEP ONERemove existing polish with a cotton ball, and use a cotton-wrapped orangewood stick on rough spots. Clip nails straight across-the more pointed they are, the weaker and more likely to tear they will be.
STEP TWOFile your nails until the corners are slightly rounded: Professionals call this universally flattering shape a “squoval.” Use a fine-grade file and wok from the outsides in, stroking the file in one direction, not sawing if (which can cause microscopic tears).
STEP THREEApply cuticle remover to our cuticles, then soak your fingertips in a small bowl filled with warm water for three or four minutes. (To lighten yellow stains on nails, add a teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide or lemon juice t the water.)
STEP FOURWrap cotton around an orangewood stick and use small, circular motions to clean hour nails an gently push back you cuticles. Clip off hangnails (but don’t cut the cuticle). Exfoliate hands with a body scrub, rinse, and apply hand cream: then remoisturize cuticles with cuticle oil. Use a cotton ball soaked in remover.
STEP FIVEStarting with your pinkie, apply base coat and let dry for one minute. Then apply color polish. When applying color, wipe one side of the brush against the bottleneck to get rid of excess polish; then use the other side to apply. For even color, apply polish in three strokes (down the center, then one down each side) from the base to the tip.
STEP SIXWait two minutes and apply a second coat. Prevent chips by brushing polish over the top edge and slightly underneath the nail to “wrap” polish around the tip. Clean up errors with an orangewood stick wrapped in a wisp of cotton moistened with remover. Finish with clear top coat and let nails dry for at least 20 minutes.
THE QUICKIE WAY TO DO A MANICUREWipe off old polish and file your nails into clean-looking squovals. Apply one coat of fast drying polish in a sheer, shimmery color that will easily camouflage any errors.
